Rachel Jacks, PMHNP-BC (she/her)
Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
I am a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. I have worked in the mental health field for over 10 years in a variety of settings. I’ve spent the past several years working in community mental health serving the people with the greatest needs. I have experience working with all populations, but have a primary focus on treating adults with anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and other medication-managed conditions. I have a particular interest in treating women, moms/parents, and queer/trans folk.
I am a white, straight ciswoman. There are many lived experiences I will not have shared with minority clients, but I strive to hear (not just listen) and validate the experiences of others. I am firmly LGBTQ-affirming in my practice, and seek to create an environment where all people can feel comfortable to be their authentic selves.
My favorite thing about the work I do is watching people grow. Even when people are really struggling, I feel so privileged to be witness to the resiliency of the human spirit. I’m a deeply compassionate and nonjudgmental person, and believe I have the qualifications, experience, and open-mindedness to assist most individuals with their treatment.
When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family at home, taking my 3 dogs on walks, and exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
Education:
Zelda
Golden Retriever
Zelda is the inspiration for the name of the practice! She loves physical affection and treats. She will likely be present in the office most days, so if you have dog allergies, my practice is likely not for you. If you want to give her pets and treats during your appointment, she would love to sit with you and likely put her head in your lap. If you don’t want to interact with her, let me know, and I’ll ensure she gives you space.
I provide psychiatric evaluation and treatment, including medication management and supportive psychotherapy to adults ages 18-60. I have expertise in treating depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and PTSD, among others. I do not prescribe benzodiazepines for daily and long term use. I do not do forensic, custody/parenting, or disability evaluations.
I primarily do in person appointments. All initial evaluations are in person, and follow up appointments may be in person or virtual, as clinically appropriate and depending on client preference.
I believe that my clients are the most important sources of truth about themselves. When doing an initial evaluation, we’ll really dig deep when discussing your behavior and symptoms to get an accurate diagnosis. This is important because an accurate diagnosis is vital to providing evidence-based care! Overall, I believe in a collaborative approach to treatment, in which decisions are shared between the client and myself within an evidence-based framework. It’s important to me that clients feel safe and not judged when working with me. I have learned through my years of experience that people who feel this way are much more likely to share their full selves with me. When I can see the full picture of the person in front of me, we can make much more useful and informed decisions together about their treatment.
My primary role in working with clients is medication management. Medications can help improve symptoms enough that life becomes more manageable. That said, medications are not a magic solution, but rather one of many tools to be utilized in building a better, more fulfilling life. Working with an experienced therapist in addition to working with me is often necessary in developing those tools.
I am a cash practice, which means I bill you directly for my services, rather than insurance. For people with commercial insurance (not Medicaid/Medicare) I’m able to provide documentation for you to submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement (likely partial). I require a card on file and charge at time of service.
My office is located in StudioWorks Ballard at 1417 NW 54th St in Seattle, office number 380.
